2023 Fiber Sampler Series

Sundays from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Held at the Rochester Folk Art Guild

The Fiber Sampler Series is open to anyone, regardless of skill or experience. These workshops are meant to be accessible to beginners, where basic skills will be taught and all materials will be provided. More experienced creatives are welcome to come play, too!

#1 How to Hand Stitch (February 26) – Full*

Learn the basics of stitching geometric designs onto fabric. The finished panels can be turned into beautiful coasters, throw pillows, patches, or used in quilts. We will cover materials, tools, and technique. Learn this basic stitch technique and turn your clothing and other fabric items into works of art.

#2 How to Dye Wool (March 5) – Full*

We will learn how to dye wool in multiple forms: loose fiber, yarn, and fabric in this class. The fiber dyed in this class can be used in the classes that follow, or used in your own projects. Professional acid dyes will be used in this workshop, which are eco-friendly and comply with organic processing standards.

#3 How to Needle Felt (March 19) – Full*

Starting with a 100% felted wool ball, we will needle felt into the surface with colorful wool and yarn to create unique designs and play with color. Our finished wool balls may be used as décor, toys, ornaments, or as dryer balls (an eco-friendly replacement for fabric softener and dryer sheets).

#4 How to Paint with Wool (April 2)- Full*

Use dyed wool and felting needles to paint a scene on fabric to be used as a wall hanging. Stitching may also be used to add detail and interest to your work. This is a great project to use wool that you dyed in workshop #2.

Individual sessions: $40

Entire series: $150

Register for a class with a friend: $60/pair
