Earth Camp

Earth Camp for Youths ages 10-16 (Adult Family Members Welcome as well)

Most children have a healthy curiosity and sense of adventure, especially outdoors. The natural world becomes our classroom as we explore the woods, fields, and ponds at the Folk Art Guild. Primitive technology skills combined with art and literature will have you practicing friction fire while hearing the words of landscape writers like Kathleen Dean Moore or Barry Lopez. We will increase our powers of observation as we identify animal tracks, look for edible berries, or sketch and capture images in our nature journals. There will be lots of new skills and time to practice them. Topics include, but are not limited to: Natural observation, Fire making, Shelter building, Cordage, Useful plants, Animal tracking, Nature journaling, Stewardship, and Finding water. A fixed or lock blade knife and journal or blank book will be required. Open to youths age 10 to 16 whose parents are staying on site or commuting. Adult family members are also welcome to register.
