The Folk Art Guild welcomes groups to East Hill Farm to immerse themselves in nature, be inspired, and build community. If you are interested in hosting a retreat or workshop at the Guild, please fill out the event planning worksheet or contact our program director at [email protected].

Romeo

Romeo is our main retreat building, named for the balcony that used to be on its second floor. This building has space on the first floor for gatherings, programs, and meals. The first floor is accessible with a ramp and also includes a kitchen, accessible bedroom that sleeps two, and three full bathrooms (one of which is ADA compliant). Dormitory-style lodging is available on the second floor.

Accommodations

Lodging is offered in Romeo in two large dorm-style rooms, as well as smaller rooms across the property. Three cozy rooms are located next to Romeo, each containing two single beds. Two additional single rooms are located at the far end of the orchard in Orchard House. All of these spaces were built by Guild craftspeople. Find rates here:

The Land

We are located on 300+ acres of hills, fields, forests, and streams. There are trails for hiking and exploring, with beautiful views of the hills and valleys at the south end of Canandaigua Lake. Wildlife abounds, and a walk up to the pond and Monarch Hill during peak butterfly season is not to be missed.

Craft Studios

The Guild houses working studios across our campus. Craftspeople in the graphics, pottery, sewing, weaving, and wood studios produce beautiful handcrafted work and offer instruction through classes, apprenticeships, and demonstrations. The studios also host visiting artists who teach immersive workshops.

East Hill Gallery

The Gallery displays the work of the Guild artisans as well as a curated collection of interesting books. Ceramic dishes and decor, wooden toys, turned wooden bowls, cutting boards, ornaments, glass jewelry, hand sewn clothing, music, stationery, handwoven scarves and ponchos, eco-printed pieces, and lavender filled eye pillows may all be purchased in the Gallery.

Services and Classes

Our talented craftspeople and members have many skills to share. The following classes and services may be added on to your event for an additional charge: Group Iyengar yoga sessions, group pottery sessions in hand-building, mindful chair yoga (30 or 60 minute sessions), reiki healing, seasonal orchard workshops, sourdough bread baking (over the course of two days), Sunday morning (8:00 am) yoga sessions, and wood turning workshops.

COVID Policy: Anyone coming to the Guild for a gathering should take a COVID-19 antigen test within 24 hours prior to arrival. If you do not feel well please do not attend a gathering here.

As a community, it is important to our mission to create a safe and welcoming space for everyone. We may update our policy at any time to ensure we are following updated guidance and recommendations from the CDC, NYS, and Yates County.
