Join us for a hands-on Apple Tree Pruning Workshop at the Rochester Folk Art Guild, in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Proper pruning is essential for healthy trees and good fruit production. Learn when and how to prune, how to shape trees for long-term health, and how to assess overall tree condition during the dormant season. Participants will have the opportunity to practice pruning techniques in the Guild's orchard, with a focus on apple trees. We can also offer advice on plums, peaches, cherries, and other fruit trees.

Workshop details:

  • Instructor: David Barnet, Rochester Folk Art Guild

  • Hands-on pruning instruction in the Guild's apple orchard

  • Tree shaping and maintenance for healthy growth and fruit production

  • Winter pest scouting and basic tree health assessment

What to bring:

  • Bring your own pruning shears if you have them, or use shared tools provided.

  • The workshop takes place outdoors. Dress for the weather.

No prior experience is necessary. This workshop is open to anyone interested in caring for backyard fruit trees, growing their own fruit, or learning practical orchard management skills.
