Time: Saturday-Monday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (studio access available after hours).

Location: Rochester Folk Art Guild, 1445 Upper Hill Road, Middlesex, NY

Learn traditional Navajo weaving from internationally acclaimed Navajo weaver Marilou Schultz, in this immersive four-day workshop at the Rochester Folk Art Guild. Participants will weave a small Diné rug on an upright loom while learning traditional weaving techniques, design principles, and the cultural heritage of Navajo weaving. Discussions may also include the preparation of wool through carding, spinning, and dyeing as time permits. Open to all skill levels.

Course Outline

Students will learn the foundations of traditional Navajo weaving, including loom setup, weaving techniques, design principles, finishing methods, and the cultural traditions that shape this art form. Each participant will receive individualized instruction while creating their own woven rug on an upright loom. Students will also receive their own upright loom to take home, allowing them to continue weaving after the workshop. The final day focuses on advanced techniques, rug finishing, and completing projects before the workshop concludes.

Course Tuition

The tuition for the Navajo Weaving Workshop is $1000.
All BIPOC students are eligible for a reduced tuition of $700.

Overnight packages are available and include lodging and breakfast each day. The prices below reflect the total cost of tuition plus accommodations:
