Course Description: Observational Drawing

Nature presents to us infinite designs of perfect beauty, with each passing moment a fleeting masterpiece of color, light and form. When an individual slows down enough to humbly study and sketch their observations a record of presence is materialized. That record is both, proof of an artist’s expanded consciousness and a means of expanding the consciousness of others. In this class you will use your sketchbook and drawing supplies to connect with the beauty of your surroundings. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, this class will be a treasure chest of artful depth and growth opportunities for you. Each day will be scheduled for group demonstrations as well as one-on-one instruction that meets your skill level and creative vision.

The Folk Art Guild is an ideal location for observational drawing with its diverse natural landscape and rustic, handcrafted buildings. Each day will start off with an exploration of the property as we settle collectively on one location that suits the day’s demoes. Depending on the weather, class will either take place outdoors or under one of the many partial outdoor shelters. In any case, there is no lack of interesting subject matter at the Folk Art Guild.

We will provide a small amount of basic drawing supplies. You will be responsible for bringing your own materials besides this. If you have a preference for your sketchbook drawing implement, please come prepared with it.

1. *Everyone is required to bring their own sketchbook.*

2. *It would be a smart idea to bring a portable camping chair so as to have a place to sit.*
