En Plen Air (In the Open Air)
Nature presents us with infinite designs of perfect beauty. Each passing moment is a fleeting masterpiece of color, light and form. It is the plein air artist’s task to connect with that beauty through careful, focused observation. Works of art can be created in a short period of time that speak in a voice of their own.
In this class you will be guided through the process of creating inspiring plein air artworks in your drawing or painting medium of choice. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned plein air professional, this class will be a treasure chest of artful depth and growth opportunities! Each day will be full of group demonstrations and one-on-one instruction that meets your skill level and creative vision.
The Folk Art Guild is an ideal location for a beautiful plein air experience with its diverse natural landscape and rustic, handcrafted buildings. We will collectively explore the property and settle on locations that suit the various demonstrations. Depending on the weather, our group will work outdoors or under shelter. In any case, there is no lack of interesting subject matter at the Folk Art Guild.
Students will be required to bring their own sketchbooks. You will be provided with basic drawing supplies, and are welcome to bring any of your own materials besides this.
If you are interested in painting, you will need the following 6 items : oil paints, an easily transportable easel or pochade box, artist’s linseed oil, rags/paper towels, and small panels/ canvases to paint on.
If you aren’t ready to invest in your own supplies, an optional materials fee of $100 will cover your panels, paints and brushes for the event.
