Preparing for Spring
February began frozen and quiet under heavy, wet snow. In the last week, the thaw has finally started. Grass is reappearing. The air feels different. There is the faintest suggestion of spring.
Over Valentine’s weekend, February 14–16, six students joined us for a weaving workshop in the studio. Two teachers led a focused and productive few days, and participants worked hard, often staying late to make progress on their projects. One evening, residents and workshop participants shared dinner together. It was a pleasure to meet everyone and to open our home and studio for the weekend.
Behind the scenes, we are deep in preparation for our upcoming exhibition:
The Rochester Folk Art Guild: Celebrating Seven Decades of Craft and Community
Opening in March 16th at the Rochester Public Library.
We are sorting archival photographs, selecting objects from the studios, and shaping a story that spans generations. We cannot wait to share it with you.
At the same time, we are building toward summer, and that means one thing:
Craft Weekend registration opens March 1.
This year’s offerings include pottery, woodturning, weaving, photography, writing, theater, and even singing in the garden. It is a full immersion in making, learning, and being together. You spend the day in the studio, share meals at long tables, walk the farm between sessions, and end up in conversations you did not expect. And yes, the food is worth coming for on its own.
If you have been curious about Craft Weekend, this is your moment. Watch your inbox on March 1.
Here is what else is coming up:
We are also planning Lecture on the Lawn, preparing the gallery for the season, working steadily in our craft shops, and building out our online store. There is real movement across the campus.
Thank you for being part of this community. Your support and participation are what allow this work to grow.
We hope to see you here soon.
